Tasks

This module is designed to give students a variety of options so that they can choose an area that interests them the most in which to learn more. Students will be asked to use the curriculum web, “Ancient Rome”, to complete their choice of one out of six tasks based on six aspects of life in Ancient Rome.

         Political Events - Task 1

As Julius Caesar rose to become dictator, the Roman Republic dissolved, creating an empire run by a single man, or emperor, with almost total and unchecked power. Pretend you are a Roman senator at the time of Julius Caesar. Prepare a persuasive speech, either in favor of or against Caesar becoming dictator of Rome. Use the information provided in the links to help make your argument.

Compare and contrast the laws of Rome, especially the 12 tables of law, with the laws of our society today. Especially think about our bill of rights and constitution.

Liturature, Music, Arts - Task 3

You are a Hollywood producer and are looking to make a great epic movie. You decide that an Ancient Roman epic would be perfect for the big screen. Use the information provided in the links to choose which piece of Roman literature you think would make the best motion picture. Explain why and who you think might be best actors to play the characters.

You are a Roman emperor at the height of the empire, yet you want more. Which land that is yet to be conquered do you think you want to conquer next? Use the information provided in the links and choose the next Roman conquest. Make sure to explain why you choose that area and what the costs and benefits of your chosen region may be.

You are a reporter for a present day magazine, and are working on an article about Ancient Rome. You are able to construct a time machine and can travel back to interview anyone in Ancient Rome you wish. Whom do you choose? What do you ask them? Create a list of questions to ask the person you are interviewing. Imagine how they would answer these questions. Use the information provided in the links to help you.

          Architecture - Task 6

You are a reporter for a present day magazine, and are working on an article about Ancient Roman architecture. You are able to construct a time machine and can travel back to ancient Rome to witness the construction of any monument, building, or structure you wish. Write an article for you magazine on the structure you witnessed being constructed. Why was it built? What purpose did it serve? What challenges did engineers face while constructing it? Use the information provided in the links to help you.

Choose any ONE of these projects. Students will be given 2 class periods in the computer lab and 3 days of class time, in which they may use computers in the media center, in which to completer their assignment.
Grading will be based on the criteria laid out in the grading rubric that is provided.
